Peter Thomas Roth CC Cream

It is rather exciting to note that Peter Thomas Roth is now available in Malaysia, although I have to admit that I am rather apprehensive about BB and CC creams. There is no standard for BB and CC Creams and brands seem to churn out their own versions and names for them: blemish balm, blemish base, beauty balm; colour control, colour corrector, complexion corrector. Which one is which? Are they fancier versions of foundation or just tinted sunscreen? Confusion aside, BB and CC creams are blurring the lines between makeup and skincare.

The BB creams I have tried are really just tinted moisturisers with extra benefits, and with SPF, they are really difficult to blend, and they do leave your skin looking grey. Remember how we’d apply sunscreen before going swimming? Yup, like that. And now we have CC creams in the market! DD creams are slowly being released too.

When Sephora sent me 2 tubes of Peter Thomas Roth’s CC Cream in Light and Light/Medium, I immediately put them to the test. Other shades in the range include Medium/Tan and Deep.

The difference between both shades are significant, as evidenced when your product doesn’t match your skin tone. For Light, Coverage is almost sheer, so skin tone is barely evened out. I’m not sure if there’s anyone whose skin tone matches Light as it is very pale with strong hints of orange. The CC cream also leaves a grey, ashy cast on your skin due to the SPF.

Light/Medium is a better match for me as there is no hint of a grey cast on my skin. Coverage is a lot better than Light, and I particularly love the slightly matte and dewy finish. I also like the fuss-free tube as it’s easy to pack, hygienic, minimises spills and I can also squeeze out the very last drops as compared to pump bottles and jars.

If your BB or CC cream doesn’t match your skin tone, I suggest layering foundation over it. Getting both shades to work for your skin tone is a whole other story though 😉

The Peter Thomas Roth CC Cream contains Camu Camu, an Amazonian fruit that contains 30 times more Vitamin C (read how Vitamin C works for your skin) than your regular orange, the highest recorded amount of natural vitamin C known on the planet.

It should also be noted that the CC cream must be applied (you need to use this much) every 2 hours, as stated in their instructions. Considering a liberal amount is needed every 2 hours, I doubt a tube of this CC cream will last a month.

The Peter Thomas Roth CC Cream is available in Sephora stores for RM198 (50ml).
