On our way back from Kuromon Market, we chanced upon Lucky Owl (¥1000 for an hour with a beverage). It didn’t take long for us to decide to pop in an owl café, and I especially wanted to check if my admission letter to Hogwarts was somehow misplaced. Little did we know, we were in for a surprise.

Unlike cat cafés, the owls are tied up. It is probably for safety reasons, but we couldn’t help but feel sorry for them. We were allowed to pat them on the head. The owls did get defensive when a cameraman from a local TV show got close to them with a video camera. One tried to fly away and flapped its wings frantically, but couldn’t get far because of the short rope attached to its leg. The owls, however, look clean and well-fed, are are available for sale.

Will we visit an owl café again? Perhaps not. No animal deserves to be tied up for our enjoyment.
