I’ve received these Kate Somerville miniatures from Sephora, and to be honest, I have never heard of the brand prior to this (better late than never, right?). Kate Somerville is the founder of the renowned Skin Health Experts Clinic in Los Angeles whose clients include Jessica Alba, Paris Hilton, Sandra Oh, and Debra Messing, and author of ‘Complexion Perfection’. After two months of using the products for once a week, I finally have my review.
First up is the ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment (RM360 for 60ml) which is to be used once or twice a week. With my sensitive skin, I’m always apprehensive when it comes to scrubs and exfoliants, so I would usually only use a tiny amount and very, very gentle scrubbing. The exfoliant is moss green in colour and packed with micro granules, just how I like my scrubs. It does have a strong herbal scent which I’m not fond of, but the scrub works so well that I quickly forget about the scent. My skin looked unbelievably clean and fresh without any tightness or stinging. ExfoliKate is the epitome of a face polish.
Next up is the DermalQuench Liquid Lift Advanced Wrinkle Treatment (RM402 for 75ml) which comes in an aerosol can and a long nozzle. The instructions recommended spraying out two lines per cheek and one across the forehead, delivering bursts of oxygen into the skin. The texture is actually rather fun, both foamy and fizzy. I don’t know about you, but my gut told me to apply the Age Arrest Anti-wrinkle Cream (RM382 for 30ml) immediately after, before the DermalQuench stops fizzing into my skin. Somehow I believe the fizzing from the DermalQuench will help to absorb the Age Arrest Anti-wrinkle Cream. The next morning, I’m greeted with hydrated skin as smooth as eggshells and as plumped and bouncy as a baby’s butt. I am not kidding! Even my go-to sheet masks for instant hydration didn’t give results half this good.
I have been having long days at work and long nights (including weekends) working on Quixotte that I have developed significant eye bags and dark circles, and the CytoCell Dark Circle Corrective Eye Cream did get rid of them after a couple of days. I don’t use it everyday though.
Update as of 13 Sept 2014: I’ve had very significant eye bags for a week which a good night’s rest could not get rid of, so I used the eye cream liberally and the eye bags disappeared the next day! Love!
Last but not least is the D-Scar Scar Diminishing Serum. Unfortunately, I don’t have any big scars to properly test the serum on, but a few minute dark spots on my skin did appear lighter. The attached rollerball does make application very easy. Again, I didn’t use this often.
Conclusion? Kate Somerville is a brand not to be disregarded. I still believe that the best skin is makeup-optional skin and Kate Somerville does have stellar products.
I have to note that Kate Somerville’s prices have gone through an approximately 15-20% price hike. Considering Kate Somerville’s products cost at least 10% of my take-home salary (also applies to many readers), which is a big hole in the pocket, you may want to select one stellar product to go with your usual skincare products.
My best bet would be to get the DermalQuench, to be used with your regular cleanser and moisturiser. I have used the DermalQuench with Hope in a Jar instead of the Age Arrest Anti-wrinkle Cream, and the results are almost similar. A little investment for your very own easy and fuss-free weekly facial at home. The DermalQuench should be able to last at least a year.
