Last month, Guerlain had a little get-together at the Mandarin Oriental with Monsieur José Luis Yuve, Guerlain’s International Makeup Artist who flew into KL all the way from Paris to share his tips and tricks on makeup application and to reveal Guerlain’s Christmas Makeup Collection.

We first started off with a walkthrough using Guerlain’s Abeille Royale anti-ageing skincare range, which highlights the benefits of honey and other bee products and how it can give you radiant skin: the perfect canvas for your makeup.
Guerlain recommends warming up all of your serum, moisturising products and BB/CC Cream with the palms of your hands first before patting them onto your face for better absorption compared to just slathering them on.
(La Mer is one of the first, if not the very first, brand to advocate this with Crème de La Mer).
Yes, BB and CC Cream too! José Luis Yuve reiterated the fact that BB and CC Creams are in fact skincare product, not makeup, hence requiring a little warming up and must be patted onto your face.
The highlight of my day for my dry skin was having a French makeup artist grab your jaw and exclaim, “Ah, the radiance! Perfect!”

I have been warming up my own products ever since, and the results are astounding! The palms of my hands are very smooth as well. Good tip for ladies who want a shortcut to have smoother skin and hands using without using additional hand products, but not for aerial arts students like yours truly. I’m slipping off very often, but my skin has never looked and felt better!

As for Guerlain’s “A Night at the Opera” Christmas 2014 collection, standouts are the Meteorites Perles d’Etoile, Rouge G de Guerlain 820 Rouge Parade, and Petrouchka Eye and Blush Palette, and they’re sold out almost everywhere! The Coque d’Or Iridescent Perfumed Powder is very special as well. The bottle sprays out a lightly-perfumed and fine gold glitter!
I also like the fact that the eyeshadow duos from the collection are named White Swan (Cygne Blanc) and Black Swan (Cygne Noir).
Very clever, Guerlain!

José Luis Yuve also sketched out how to best apply smokey eyes, Meteorites (in a G), and blush. Also taught were how to ‘measure’ the right spots on the face to apply makeup, and which areas not to cross during application as shown by the dashed lines. I do hope my shots of the sketches are helpful!

Merci Guerlain for having me again! I’ve had a lovely time and the tips are indispensable!
