Publika is one of Kuala Lumpur’s newest places to see and be seen, especially with its homage to the arts and sprawling variety of gourmet eateries.
Alessio serves Italian and Asian fusion dishes, and it’s no surprise that the place is always busy. The restaurant also bakes their own bread, which is already a plus in my book.
Cheryl and I dropped by Alessio last Sunday, and what a feast we had!
First up, we had the Grilled Norwegian Salmon (above), grilled to perfection and served with fresh mango sauce, mashed potatoes, coral & rucola salad, garlic and butter focaccia.
I’m not a big fan of seafood, but I was very impressed with Alessio’s salmon dish.

The Grilled Aubergine & Mushroom Bruscetta were indulgently rich and satisfying, even as a starter.

Next, we had the Spaghetti Vongole with Clams. The pasta was al dente, and the olive oil was wonderfully fragrant.

We also had the Fungi Misti pizza, which was hand-tossed and baked to perfection in Alessio’s 5 feet-deep wood stone, ‘live fire’ oven. The pizza consists of a trio of wild mushrooms, thyme and panna.
I am obsessed with mushrooms, and the tang of the cheese went wonderfully well with the earthy mushrooms. The winner, however, is the crispy, flat crust.

The Nasi Lemak Istimewa makes a comeback in Alessio with fluffy, spiced rice with curry chicken and sambal. No complaints 😉

One of the highlights of the night was the Apricot & Chestnut Chicken Involtini, where the chicken is stuffed with apricot, chestnut and smoked duck bacon served with arugula salad and toasted foccacia.
The chicken and duck bacon were tender, and the smoky duck bacon gave the dish a little pleasant kick.

The Sizzling Lamb Shoulder is another crowd-pleaser. The lamb shoulder is charbroiled and served with fresh button mushrooms, grilled vegetables in marinara sauced and creamy jacket potato. Carnivorous patrons will love this.

For dessert, we had the Crème Brûlée and Orange Crème Caramel, which were beautifully light and complemented our huge dinner wonderfully.
