Thakoon, people.
Thakoon!

Besides getting access to my favourite Dion Lee’s show (backstage and runway), the organisers of Singapore Fashion Week, Mercury MC, extended a pass to Thakoon’s as well.

For his Fall/Winter 2015 collection, Thakoon chose autumnal earth tones, some with iridescent details, some inspired by tapestry. It wasn’t exactly the most cohesive collection, but maybe that’s what he does best.
His midnight-blue sequinned dress is simply stunning and it is my favourite from his collection.

Just a couple fun facts: I was mistaken for a designer not once, but twice, at SGFW.

I was given only 10 minutes to shoot backstage for all shows, and for Thakoon’s, I had to do so between racks of clothes, then run out to the crowded runway to book my spot in the photographer pit.
His show was so packed that some of the guests chose to stand in the pit as well, thus I was left with a small window to shoot: between a videographer’s left shoulder and a guest’s right shoulder; not including another row of guests standing in the pit as well.

Other than that, the photographers in the pit are the nicest I have met, far nicer than the ones in KL. Now that’s funny.
They were always ready to answer my questions, and reminded me that my shots are great, so I shouldn’t worry too much about what people might think.
Another photographer also gave me a gem of an advice when it comes to booking clients: “If you think you’re being exploited, then don’t do it.”

It really was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me to be able to photograph just any Dion Lee and Thakoon show, so I grew a metaphorical pair of balls and sent Mercury MC my portfolio, hoping that they will like my work and grant me a photographer’s pass. Oh, how joyful it was to receive their reply!
I cannot thank the team enough for the opportunity they have given me, and they are among the most professional and courteous PR teams I have ever met.
I’m already looking forward to Singapore Fashion Week 2016!
